I’m a Mac lover…and proud of it! But…

After an agonising Windows XP filled 6 days, I got my Mac back yesterday. I was on the verge of going to by a cheap £500 Windows Visa/XP laptop from PC World, as I had so much work to do but didn’t have the effective machinery to get it done.

Then before I made my decision, those nice guys from the Genius Bar in Regent Street called to tell me my computer is ready. Cool: it saved me wasted time on making a decision between XP or Vista as I read somewhere that Vista’s competition is believe it or not XP (!!!), I saved precious petrol driving down to PC World waiting on their rubbish Customer Service to get me a machine (there’s hardly anyone available on the shop floor), save on wasted time to set the whole thing up. I will have to get one at some point anyway, but I’m trying to put if off for as long as I can.

I always love going into the Apple Store with it’s cool designer gadgets and funky, cool, geeky staff. Suits me perfectly. After testing my machine, I then went an played with the iPhone. An object of my curiosity and affection for the last 18 months. Admittedly, it was a pleasure to hold it: sleek, flat with minimal buttons etc and the all important perfect size for small handbags too! I played around with the features which is really easy to use. I have to admit it was Child’s play: something that Mac can be rated for.

However….But…..Hold on A Minute…..Screech to a Halt…. would I buy one???!!! Well after watching the Gadget Show on Channel 5 (UK) a few weeks ago, they roadtested the Nokia N95 against the iPhone. Now I thought, hands down that the iPhone would have won minus one particular element, 3G functionality. But no, the N95 won on the basis that it has better camera and video functionality, the Maps functionality was superior and used local GPS technology, 3G for surfing, whereas the iPhone relied on wifi which we know is ultra patchy in the UK and also you have to pay extra for. And for fat fingered people, tapping in words could be just a nightmare, apparently…

Despite that it’s still a great phone, although it wasn’t designed to the high mobile standards that us Europeans have been used to for years now. I’ve owned an N95 for almost 6 months and just started to use it and I have to admit it’s a fantastic phone. I love it’s ease and superiority above the N70 and any other non-touch screen phone that I’ve owned or encountered.

Now to answer the question. Yes I would buy an iPhone, but only once they’ve installed 3G and allow use on different networks. I’m not interested in joining 02. Simple as really! So maybe when the 2nd or 3rd generation is released.
